Converting Between SE and SW

Hi, new to the forum. an anyone tell me how to convert or export solid works files to solid edge? I design in SW and my CNC guy who makes our parts is working in SE. We would like to both be able to make changes if and when neccessary.

How does one go about opening SW .prt file in SE? Specifically, how do you import the model /feature tree so it remains usable?

A similar question would be How do you open (wwith feature tree) a .par in solid works?

SW does not export to a SE format.

SW cannot import SE files with the features intact. The Feature Recognition module would have to be used.

I don't believe SE can open a SW file (native or otherwise) with the features intact. But then SEwST doesn't need to does it?

Not sure how much ST has changed it or what SW can do however...

We use parasolid for data exchange between the 2, no feature tree and limited ability to edit the 'dumb' solid.

ST appears to be pretty powerfull at editing 'dumb' solids but I don't know how well SW copes.

SE should open SW part and assembly, although I can't tell you what version or what is left of the history.
File > Open > then select from the File Types list.

The version thing is also an issue, I don't think we were ever on 'compatible' versions with our SW vendor.

I think this is because Siemens PLM keeps the latest version of Parasolid for its products, and licences the previous version to competitors. So Solidworks is always one version of Parasolid behind compared to Solid Edge.

At least that's what a vendor told me.

That wasn't it, we were opening SW files in SE so even if they had an older version SE should have been able to open it.

However, I could be wrong.

On the rare occasion we did get files to open from SW, as I recall it went through the Parasolid translation anyway so you may as well ask for the Parasolid and have them validate the Parasolid files in advance incase of any translation issues.
