Converting 2d AutoCAD to SE ST drawings.

I have requested and been getting the original AutoCAD drawings files from our customers and I would like just to take their drawing, dimensions and all, and change it up with my companies header. When I open the files they come up within the the 2D model tab. From here I would like to delete the old header, and capy the rest straight into my working tab, but when I do this, I lose all of my dimensions. The 2D model copies fine but not the dimensions.
Does anyone know how to combat this?

Leave the drawing on the 2D model sheet.
Create a '2D Model View' on the main sheet.
