Hi can someone please help me. I am trying to convert the measurements on my penetrometer to undrained shear strength. The measurements on the penetrometer are in kg/cm2 and I need to convert this measurement to kN/m2. Can anyone please help me?

The relation between penetrometer (unconfined compression) and undrained shear is 2, i.e. you divid the penetrometer reading by 2. That will give you undrained shear in kg-force/cm2.

1 kg-force equals 9.807N = 0.009807KN
1 cm2 = 1x10-4 m2

therefore 1kg/cm2 = 98.07 KN/m2 = 1.02 ksf
