Hi,

I'm trying to generate contact between 2 shells but when I ask a cncheck, Ansys says that I've got an initial penetration due to the shell elements' thicknesses. Is there a way to thicken shell element only in one direction?

thanks in advance.

Hi

No there isn't but maybe you can use a shell93 element?

Garry

I think the problem will be the same with shell93 elements since I need to impose a thickness.

but there is probably a way so that the shell thickness does not alter contact solutions...

Hello,

it would allso work for SHELL181 with the option for cross sections SECOFFSET. For example:

SECTYPE,SHELL
SECDATA,...
SECOFFSET...

Regards,
Alex

Thank you Alex and Garry !!

I will try both 91 and 181.
