Hi,

I am trying to connect a Laptop (Windows 2000 Professional) to a PC (Windows XP Professional) using a twisted pair cable a the ethernet cards on both, to configure I used on the laptop the following setup

I/P Address: 10.114.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

And on the PC

I/P Address: 10.114.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

The workgroup for both is "HOME", the intention is to backup a bunch of information and several folders from the Laptop to the PC, right now I am only able to browse the workgroup on the Laptop being able to see the PC but when I try to access the shared files or folders it brings up an errror that I cannot access the computer while on the PC I am not even able to browse the workgroup for an unknown reason. If somebody can hellp me with this I will really appreciate it.

Thanks

JM

I assume that you're using the equivalent of a null-modem ethernet cable?

You might also try posting this question on Tek-Tips, which is much more oriented to computer networking and software. It sounds like there's some configuration issues on both computers.

Thanks IRstuff the configuration cable I am using is as follows:

Side 1 Side 2
Name Pin Pin Name
TX+ 1 3 RX+
TX- 2 6 RX-
RX+ 3 1 TX+
RX- 6 2 TX-

I will try Tek-Tips.

Sorry, I was thinking more along the lines of software configuration

Check your rights, you should allow the remote user to have access to the folders you want to share
