Connecting tariff meter to control system 1

A different section of my organisation has asked me for advice on connecting the output of their tariff meters (watts, VArs and possibly current and volts) into the control systems. I know how we do it for our large sites (multiple circuits mainly over 100MVA) but I think that solution may be too expensive for smaller (10-100MVA single circuit) sites. Has anyone got any experience of doing this?

I think most of the meters will be the Elster A1700 type and I'm in the UK.

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific perhaps. I'm happy that we can install additional comms if we need to but as far as I'm aware the control systems will need some sort of protocol convertor to be able to make sense of the data. I can't see anything on their website that would fit the bill.

My colleagues are not keen to use pulses as there is then no way to get amps and volts not to mention the time delay.

Omega has transducers which will convert Volts, Amps, or Watts into a 4-20ma signal.
