Confused about downloading upgrades

We are owned by another company and they supply us with Solidworks, but they hold the service contract. We are still using SW2006 because we have Windows 2000 and there will not be any money for upgrading computers for as long as I can see. In the meantime they are letting me take SW2008 home and play around with it there, all legal as far as I can tell.

My problem is I have dial-up at home, and at work I'm blocked from accessing the upgrades (used to be able to, though)apparently because we are not the ones holding the contract. I don't know how I can get the SPs then. All I will be using SW for is mechanical design- no fancy graphics and no networks. Do I really need SP2? After seeing all the other posts, I am inclined to just leave it as is. I don't know what is in the SPs since I can't get to the documentation.

I can't get the other company to download them for me- it took weeks to get SW2008 from them.

What do you guys think I should do?
Thanks

You could try to contact a local VAR, they may be able to help you identify who the VAR of the parent company is. Then, they might supply you the SP2 on a CD or something given your situation.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

EngJW,
You do realise that whatever you create in SW08 at home, you will not be able to open and use at work?

[cheers]
