First off - hope all, who celebrate, had a fantastic Christmas . . . and all others had a great few days off . . . We eat at a Chinese canteen on site (non-halal - so they serve pork) all year long. While we do pay for the food, the staff is always quite friendly (4 of them) . . . so for Christmas, the other expat still on site and myself made Christmas dinner for them - as a way to thank them. Made roast beef, mashed spuds, honey glazed carrots, gravy and chili-con-carne . . . wondering if they would like "western" food - well, it was all devoured. Had a few of the Contractor's staff who we deal with all the time there as well . . . a nice time - especially since my wife is in Bali soaking up the sun (actually it is raining about every day there and my daughter who studies in Bali is in Germany with her "man" . . .

Now for the question - - - concrete cover on form tie-rods. If the spec/drwg says to have 100 mm cover in water passages, then it is my position that 100 mm cover is required for the tie-rods, too (after removal of the tie-rod cone). Others argue that the full cover isn't necessary. Just wondering what my colleagues think . . .

With kind regards and hoping y'all have a fantastic New Year (and can keep to your resoluations), BigH [cheers]

BigH...I agree with you. The purpose of cover is to prevent deterioration. As tie rods deteriorate, so will rebar in close proximity. I'm sure the tie rods are closer to the rebar than 100mm in areas! Water path!

I regret I can't say much about the tie-rods but I'd like to join BigH in his new year wishes, my personal resolution is to get over my backlog, lol, it's good to have a lot of work but when it accumulates too much nervousness arises in the mental background. I had to work on reports in the Xmas morning and I'll probably go on while waiting for the new year.

I eat pretty sparingly these days, a sign of the upcoming old age maybe. At Xmas though I luxuriated in fresh fruits from Sicily , almonds, aromatic honey and hot chocolate. In the evening I ate vegetables, bread and cheese. I made up for my Xmas frugality helping in barbecuing pork for other people.

Best of the New Year BigH and McCoy....and the rest of our misfit lot!
