Hello,

Does anybody know the rule of thumb for compressed air consumption in air flotation process. For example per cum of contaminated water inlet. I need to estimate compressor size for oily water treatment system at crude oil terminal.

Thanks very much

rob5377:

For air drum pressures of 35 to 55 psig, about 0.5 SCF per 100 gallons of total flow (i.e., fresh feed + any recycle).

SCF = standard cubic feet of air at atmospheric pressure and 60 deg Fahrenheit = 0.0268 cubic metres of air at atmospheric pressure and 0 deg Celsius.

35 to 55 psig = an absolute pressure of 343 to 481 kPa

100 gallons = 378.5 litres

From the WEMCO manual, the recommended make-up gas rate for WEMCO-type flotation cells is 0.1-0.2 scf/barrel per day of influent water, which is 0.003 - 0.006 scf per gpm.
