I have 4 linear counterbored holes with threads, for cam followers.

4X <DIA>.438 <DEEP>.480
7/16-20 UNF-2B THRU

Can I apply composite positional tolerancing to the entire callout, or do I have to apply to the counter bore and threads separately?

MadMango:

As per page 137 fig. 5-37 in the standard, you can apply a positonal tolerance on both the hole(s) and the counter bore(s) together. Make sure that the 4X hole size and then the counter bore size with depth are above the feature control frame.

In that same thought then, one may have a composite feature control frame covering both or one can separate them as per fig. 5-38.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the verification, I just needed a sanity check. I will probably apply to both (fig 5-38) as the counter bore for the cam follower shafts are important.
