I have an assembly which has a long rectangular strip and on top of that strip is standing another rectangular plate at an angle to the strip. I am trying to pattern this rectangular plate along the strip. I am using "Component Pattern" to do this. I select one of the edges of the strip and specify the spacing what is the perpendicular distance between 2 plates. But SW applies this spacing as the distance between the plates ALONG the strip. But this is wrong, since I want spacing as the perpendicular distance between 2 plates and NOT ALONG the strip.

Any ideas how to do this without having to calculate the spacing ALONG the strip?

Some paperwork/calculation will be necessary but....

Have SW do it for you......
In the distance box, type a formula similar to this:

D1*cos(A1*pi/180)

where D1 is the distance you are trying to attain and A1 is the relative angle at which the part is sitting. You will need to determine what is the proper angle to use dependent upon what you are trying to pattern.

Remember your trig to get the proper angle to use with the proper function (sin, cos, tan, etc..) and the pi/180 is the conversion to radians (Radians is used by SW for its calculations)

OK, I'm confused ... Have I totally missed something??

If you are trying to pattern a part along a strip so that the space between the parts is X, then use X+Length of part as the distance to pattern.

Radians???

He appears to be trying to pattern a part that is sitting at an angle. At the same time he wants to enter the distance normal between the parts (which is perpendicular to the angle at which the parts are inserted) into the componet pattern's linear disatance box without actually using a calculator to figure it out manually and typing it in.
