Comparing Carbon footprints: HDPE pipe to DIP 1

I am trying to locate papers, research or published articles on the similarities and differences between the carbon footprint of HDPE pipe and ductile iron pipe. Goal is to come up with some sort of measurable comparison... from the point raw materials used, the manufacture of, transportation and installation of these two products.

Obviously GHG emissions are a hot topic. Has anyone seen research or articles on this?

Real project. Don't think what I'm looking for exists yet. At least not this specific.

UK is trying to introduce a spec that will require products to fall within a certain GHG emissions range or they won't be considered for the project. Client is trying to stay ahead of the curve and wants a tool that will produce the data to support a spec like this.

I'd like to see that also. I am now waiting patiently for a way to calculate the relative crbon footprint for various construction methos for pipe work. Vermeer is going to unveil one calculator at the end of the month. It will compare three trnchless methods with open cut.
