Hi All,

My first post here, be gentle ;)

I have modeled a polyellipsoidal lens and need to now model my company logo on the outer surface while also radially about the center axis. Think something like the embossed lettering around the bottom on a glass coke bottle. I'll try to attach the file.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Is the attached what you're after?
Just divide the face with the curves and then I used Offset region to apply an offset to the divided faces.

What you need to do it get someone to create for you a custom TrueType font library using your style of letters then you could do what I did in the attached model. That is, use the Geometric Text function to create the text on the face of your 'lens' while offsetting it from the edge.

Hi John,

Thanks for the direction - looks like I've got a date with google and "TTF editor." Is there anything you could suggest as a workaround in the interim?

How about this solution ?

I rotated the wcs such that i could draw a rectangle around the logo.
Created two concentric circles with the same center as the lens.
Then i created two "support surfaces" using the new curves to use in a global shaping feature.
- I deformed the logo from rectangular to circular.

You can modify the arcs used by the second Through Curves as you desire, - to maybe move the logo outwards etc.
The curves could have been defined as sketches equally well.

The original projected curves are on layer 41.

Tomas

Hi Tomas,

Your solution is elegant and you've taught me a new command (Global Shaping), thank you! I think I can tweak your file to scrunch the logo an amount proportional to the elongation from projection to the lens surface and have quite an acceptable workaround. Again, thank you!

I imagine John thought of something like this but instead provided a long-term solution which is precise and allows editing of the font.

Between you and he I think I've got it licked :)

Now if I can just find someone with mad TTF skillz...

Check the net, there are several font 'foundries' out there who could do that for you. Of course, this would only be financially practical if the font used in your logo was truly your own (as in the company's) and that it was used in situations other than just your company logo.

Siemens has a full suite of TrueType libraries (4 in total) of their corporate font. The very first day that we were officially part of Siemens, we all received an email with a link to where we could download and install these proprietary font files onto our PC's. They are that protective of their corporate image that from day one were told that whenever the word 'Siemens' was used by itself, as any sort of logo or image, outside of a normal string of text as in a sentence, that we were required to use the corporate fonts and if it was going to shown in color, it had to be rendered in the proscribed Pantone color on a pure white background (as shown below). No exceptions.

John,

I had our logos created as TTF as you suggested and it works quite nicely.

Thank you so much!
