compactlogix L32E Serial port CH0 problems

I have a device that i need to communicate to that only has TX, RX, and Gnd.

I have to send one character to the device, and then receive it's reply which could be 400-500 bytes.

I am able to send characters.
But I don't think that i have ever received them.
I'm using AWA commands.

I have verified that the device is working when i connect to my PC and use Hyperterminal.

9600,N,8,1
No Handshake, have tried Half and Full Duplex.
Have tried with and without Termination and Append characters.

Have tried with AWA and AWT commands.

Try the ARL instruction and use the terminating characters to determine the length of the read
