Compact Flash to IDE converter

I've seen adapters that convert an IDE socket to a CompactFlash socket so that you can do a solid state boot on a PC, but does something exist that will convert it the other way? I'm looking to attach a laptop drive to a CompactFlash device in order to up the storage capability. For example, I want to attach a hard drive to a CF-based mp3 player or camera. So far, my searches have turned up nothing but the solid state bootable adapters.

On a side note, is it theoretically possible to build an adapter myself? What would be the biggest hurdles?

There's a 4GB hard drive that connects to the Sony PSP's Memory Stick slot. Rapidly obsoleted by 4 and 8GB Memory Sticks...

For your purposes, why not just purchase a HDD-based MP3 player? It wouldn't cost any more than making it yourself from bits.

Oh I was just using the MP3 player as an example. There are several other devices I have in mind to convert.

I guess you know that there are plenty of CF form-factor HDDs, typically aimed at the high-end digital camera market. I guess they use 1" HDDs inside. I dunno if there's an IDE interface on those HDD or if they've skipped a step.
