Are there general machining specs for commutators (surface finish, type of roughness)?

Suggestion: Visit
and type Commutators under Product or Service, which will return 42 companies to approach to regarding commutator specifications and industry standards.

Commutator surface should be at least 180 or better, preferably 220.
Be careful on how much of the copper is machined off, that if too much is removed you may have a centrifugal force failure.
Don't for get to undercut the commutator i.e. machine the mica insulation from between the commutator segments. This is a major cause of arcing.
