Can anyone explain to me, exactly what a How A Zero-Static Valve Works? (in common language)

I understand why 2D is better than the 6D recommended by cGMPs, and I know what Zero-Static means (no dead leg for bacterial growth, chemical buildup, etc.)

Can anyone explain to me, in laymen's terms, so that I can explain to my supr?
