COMMON ZONE MODIFIER - DO I NEED IT?

Afternoon

This may sound like an utterly stupid question, but I've never used the 'CZ' modifier, as most surface work we do is usually controlled with a surface profile tolerance. So it got me thinking, if I have a plate with say 4 pads sticking up which are cut to a surface, what's the difference between using surface profile tolerance, and a surface profile tolerance with a 'CZ' modifier? I can't personally see any difference in the end result?

Or am I missing something

If your Profile is fully constrained to datums, then no - every feature is constrained to the same datums and "going nowhere"

If you use Profile without datums, it applies to every feature separately due to Independence principle. Then you have situation like the one shown on enclosed picture.

Not everybody likes it this way, but it's there.
