I made multibodied part with a shaft going through the center of a plate (two intersecting solid bodies). I would like to cut the union out of the shaft leaving two shafts (one on each side) and a plate. If I use the Combine->subtract option, then the plate disapears. Is there a way to subtract the union from the shaft, but leave the plate? I am using SW2006 SP4.1.

I know of several workarounds for this example, but none that would work with more complicated parts.

Use Indent with the cut box checked. You can even put a tolerance in.

After reading again I think you may want to use combine with ADD and then use the SPLIT feature

Freakin Friday.

I meant use Split with the face of your shaft and then do a delete body. So many ways to skin cats.

I'm going home.

Split is the way to go. You will have to play with the options/selections to be left with the portions you want.

Thanks guys.

Here is the process I used.

1. I started with two solid bodies (shaft and plate).
2. Insert->Features->Split
3. I selected both faces of the PLATE, and then clicked on "Cut Part"
4. I selected "Consume Parts" and checked the middle shaft piece.

That worked like a charm. This also works for my more complicated problem as well. I love this forum.
