We are currently at the end of a large warehouse project with a steel x-braced frame with tube steel columns. I was recently notified that the construction manager has noticed that a significant number of the interior columns are out of plumb, some by 3 1/2". This structure is approximately 40' tall. How would one analyze these columns to make sure they are still structurally adequate? The column itself is not bent, just set crooked, although the cause has not been determined yet. Would I look at the roof load as an eccentric load that will put the column in bending? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
