Color coding of pipes

I am trying to locate OSHA standards for color coding of piping throught my facility. I work in the glass industry and want to color code, natural gas, oxygen, compressed air, low air, water, hydrogen. Any info on the subject would be great!

I would start by contacting the compliance branch of OSHA and ask them for further information. You can request a site review from them as well for detailed feedback. They can and will if asked, conduct a site audit with the results returned to you and held confidential from the enforcement arm of OSHA. Also there may be a state version of OSHA (depending on the state you are in) that you will need to consider first. Federal OSHA does not supercede the state where a similar requirement exists. The NFPA also has numerous standards that may end up being referenced or incorporated by reference into OSHA codes. NIOSH, EPA, DOT may also have additional and sometimes conflicting information on labelling/coding of materials. Best of luck wading through the standards, they are not necessarily for the faint of heart .

A second place to look would be a safety supply store/site. Many of them contain pre-coded labels for containers and piping that you could use as well.

Thanks for the tip. Your right though, I have found numerous standards depending on what type of manufacturing or regulatory division in question. OSHA is due in my facility in a few weeks and color coding will be a good topic. Thanks Again.
