Cold Formed Steel Buildings - Lateral Systems

Can anyone point me to a guide or give me your thoughts on lateral systems for cold formed residential buildings of 8-12 stories in the eastern, low seismic US?

I'm thinking cast in place shear walls at the stair towers or braced frames. I don't think CMU would cut it.

Also, 10-12 stories seems like a stretch for a building of this type, correct?

I think 8 stories is a stretch. Too many pesky details involved in the design and construction that never will get done properly.
Steel frame with metal stud infill is my suggestion.

I agree with XR250. Recheck seismic - seems to be changing quickly in the East.

Depending on your floor system and wall spacing, it will be pushing it. I have done a few 5 story hotels, HCP floors, spans of 30', and studs at the first floor are doubled up 12 ga generally. and the lateral system is pushed to the limit for strap walls at that height, so you would need structural steel or concrete at the height you are talking more than likely.
