Hi. A cold formed steel structure is going to be designed according to the AISI specification.(It is NOT a light gauge steel frame!) The elements are relatively thick. So the structure meets the ductility criteria and other requirements of the AISC specification and the seismic provisions, too. Now my question is, can the design coefficients and factors of ASCE-7 for common steel structures (e.g. special steel concentrically braced frames) be used, to determine the seismic loads?
Indeed the Light-frame walls are the only cold formed systems, which are mentioned in the Table12-2-1 of ASCE-7, as a seismic force-resisting system. But, although the above mentioned structure is a cold formed open sections included, it also comply with the special steel concentrically braced frames.
Thank you.

Are you out in the west coast? I have never heard someone do this before. Why don't you make a quick call to your local building official. Eventually they are the ones who will have to approve all your drawings.
