Cold Box for Heat Exchangers

Hello,

I will have to make a short presentation next week about cold box for heat exchangers for use in the LNG plants. I have looked for in the Internet, there is a lot of material but not really very clearly explaining the use and how to choose it. Do you have any material which could help me? And also some material for the composite curves.

There's a good video on Linkedin at the moment of a cold box that has ruptured and is spraying cryogenic liquid everywhere...

What are you looking to talk about specifically? Just an overview of cold boxes, or are you focusing more on the heat exchangers and separators inside?

All of the MCHE units used in the APCI baseload LNG PR-MR / DMR (and other less known variants) process license are of the spiral wound type, while I believe Conoco Philips use multipass plate fin units in their cascade refrigeration process. APCI is also marketing a thermodynamically less efficient (but mechanically less complex and more compact) nitrogen refrigerant based process for LNG liquifaction for floating LNG plants. Brazed aluminum fin HEs' are used in air separations plants. These are all specialised designs and the thermal design of these units is proprietory technology. Ethylene plants also use compact heat exchangers in their cold boxes, where temps go as low as -100degC or so. Cold end temp approaches are of the order of 0.5degC or less in LNG plant MCHE. Linde is also in the LNG plant business, while BOC design and run smaller plants for LNG, helium.
It may be far easier for you to get typical cooling curves for LNG than the thermal design info for these MCHEs. I dont have either.
