Looking for design guidance on the clips that attach purlins to other purlins or beams.
- Is there a requirement or standard on what gauge and yield strength these clips need to be?
- In general, are they only resisting uplift loads and potentially side loads?
- I've generally seen them as just bent steel angles. Didn't know if there is any benefit for having strengthen lips and/or gussets in the angle corner?
Thanks much, Mike

No problem... a bent 'L' shape with or without holes for self tapping fasteners. As long as they are thick enough to resist the load... I don't see any issues. There's a PEMB engineer on the site; he may have some additional comments.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

The technical catalogs have design ratings and screw quantities/arrangements. A common way that engineers avoid this is to specify the purlin for pricing, and require a delegated designer to specify the actual material, connectors, fasteners, and calculations. Just make sure that the purlin is not undersized for pricing.
