Cleaning water lines

Hi all, new member. I need to clean water lines (because of bacteria and gelling)in my process (1" PVC), which is not the best to use for water, but I didn't design it. Anyways, the current method here is to use Sodium HypoChloride and surfactant. I feel this method is good, but also think that using a bacteriacide would be a better approach. I had experience using these, and it often keeps bacteria from forming as quickly after cleaning also. Anyone have any experience with these 2 methods and the pros and cons associated with them?
