am currently working on small project(small budget) for an NGO they are actually trying to build a community sports center with a basketball court and football pitch and then a pavilion/stands. now here is the dilema the site is in very swampy grounds. am thinking of the following solutions for these conditions a rigid pavement for the basketball court and a steel fabricated pavilion(stands) as opposed to the proposed concrete stands but then i have no clue on how to deal with the surface and subsurface drainage of the pitch and the cheapest control over rising ground water, i tried to look at geotextile since the water table not below 4 feet but the cost is ooops.

What area are you in? Do you have freezing problems? Can you put a french drain or well points around the perimeter to draw down the water table in the area of construction? What is local practice for building in swamp <G>. A poor site often causes increases in costs...

its in sub-sahara no freezing what so ever and its actualy located at the foot of a volcanic mountain thou inactive, the mountain has losts of rivers flowing down, i think it is the cause of the 'soggy' condition. actually there isn't much construction in this valley most settlements are uphill on firm grounds. thanks
