Hi all,

I will be starting a new job next month as a senior civil engineer in the rail sector. I have no prior experience in this sector but have worked briefly in buildings (retail), bridges, highways, waste management, pharmaceutical and general infrastructure. I have a total of 4 years post university experience.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good textbook I can use which would help me develop my understanding of the sector from a civil engineering point of view?

The sort of work will involve designing and project managing schemes involving station/platform alterations, substations and rail alignment/construction.

Appreciate the help

Thanks

You should post your question in the railraod engineering and railroad equipment engineering forum. They'll point you to the AREMA manual
