CIRCULARITY/ROUNDNESS TOLERANCE APPLIED 1

Hi guys,

I have a drawing with a Ø1.264±.002 dimension and a roundness tolerance of .025.

my question is: does the roundness tolerance (.025) well applied?, since it is bigger than symetric .002 tolerance part.

can roundness tolerance to be bigger than the size dimension tolerance?

What GD&T standard is the drawing to, ISO or ASME Y14.5, (if 14.5 which edition).

Depending on if rule 1 is invoked (default in ASME) then it might be valid.

Thanks KENAT for your response. the standard used is the ASME Y14.5M.

So, the tolerance zone for roundness is .025? the dimension is Ø1.264±.002.

If Ø1.266 max and Ø1.262 min. How does the roundness tolerance (.025) apply to the form?

The incoming inspection department thinks that this roundness allows to the part been an ellipse within .025 tolerance. but on that dimensions the part is not functional.

So I thougt that the roundness tolerance it could be wrong by a typo error being .0025 the correct value.

Assuming that by 'roundness' you mean circularity then by 14.5M (or at least -1994 version and I suspect others) I don't think the tolerances are correct.

Check out section 6.4.3.1 of the 1994 version. "The circularity tolerance must be less than the size tolerance, except for those parts subject to free state variation."
