Chrome fume / H2 & O2 seperation membrane

How difficult is it to seperate the fumes that evolve in Chrome plating from the O2 & H2 that cause them? There are companies that use a membrane of some kind to allow the gasses to escape but hold back the Chromic acid and water vapor that are in the atmosphere above the solution. Is this a real technical application or will a reasonably tight poly -something cloth work?

As far as membranes go, your first search should involve one that can withstand the constant acidic environment. I believe PTFE might be favored for chemical resistance. Then you'd have to determine if whether the flow through the membrane impedes your ventillation. During my plating experience, fumes were ventillated into a scrubber system that removed the contaminates from the air and put them into wastewater, where it is more treatable. It may be old school, but the ventillation was of utmost importance. Be sure the membranes you choose aren't too tight.
