Checkered Plate Floor Diaphram & Lateral Bracing

I'm designing a floor with 5/16" checkered plate. I have two questions:

1: Does the checkered plate provide any diaphragm action?
2: Does checkered plate typically provide adequate strength and stiffness to be considered lateral bracing for the floor beams?

It can be checked for strength and stiffness using AISC 13th Appendix 6.
