Channel stilling plate

I am providing an engineering design for the installation of a 'stilling plate' within a sewage channel. The channel is 2 metres wide and 4m deep. The Top Water Level within the channel is 3m. The stilling plate is the full width of the channel and 1.5m deep with the top edge is located 100mm above the 3m top water level. ie, there will be 1.5m below the bottom edge of the stilling plate for the water to pass under.

The velocity of the incoming flow is 3 m/s. The plate is supported on the two sides only and I cannot find a calculation anywhere for calculating the force on the plate.

Can anyone provide me with any leads?

never hurts to check the units on calculations to see if they are correct...
 
Equations based on fluid dynamics ignore the contribution of floating logs in the stream, or bits of machinery falling on top of the plate. If your design fails when stuff happens, people will speak ill of you.

You will find that most of the stuff in an any industrial installation is designed to withstand the normal working forces applied, as well as the gentle caress of an inexpertly driven forklift.
