Hello
I am designing a two strand end drive chain conveyor to carry a 2000# load at aprrox. 50 Fpm. I have selected the carrier chain and sized the drive etc. My question is, what criteria do I use to select the head sprockets pitch dia.
I realize that if the pitch dia. is too large this will require a larger reducer, and if too small probably premature wear. None of my chain catalogs outline the procedure. Is the size somehow related to the chain pull, similar as selecting a drive pulley diameter for belt conveyor?
Any help would be appreciated,

Jaspisha,

The Machinest Handbook provides charts for most chain sizes and speeds vs maximum HP allowable and recommneded lubrication method. If I understand your problem correctly, you are using standard drive chain to act as your conveying surface. These charts should give you the data you need to find the right balance between pitch diameter, reducer size and speeds.
