I am trying to calculate the heat loss over a CCD. It has an open top and a cone bottom (off ground). How to I find the convective losses (natural convection) from the bottom of the tank. Can I assume it is the same as a horizontal surface? (I have done a calcutaion for closed tanks with conical roof, ie would the losses through a conical roof be the same method as losses through a conical bottom)

It is not heated. The temperature is 60 C and ambient is 25 C. How do I work out the heat losses due to evaporation. All my textbooks refer only to falling film evaporation, but this is from a horizontal surface with no heat input. I will use a software package for checking but I want to calculate it myself. A good book reference would be nice.

Any help on these topics would be appreciated

Thanks
