Hello out there,

I am in need of a technical manual for a Caterpillar VR3 AVR.
It is currently connected to a Basler PF controller that I need to remove from the circuit.
The ComAp controller that we are fitting will handle the voltage matching (for syynchronising)and the PF control (when in parallel)via an existing motorised potentiometer.
I realise that I can leave the Basler module in circuit with no detriment if I do not activate it with the breaker feedback input,
but the damn thing is physically in the way so we would like to remove it.
I need to know if I have to replace the basler connections with links/resistors.

Can anyone help??

The manual suggested is not as detailed as would like, the doc refers to;

For a complete listing of connection diagrams, see Caterpillar publication SENR4794-01 entitled
“CONNECTION DIAGRAMS: SR4 GENERATORS VR3 & VR4 VOLTAGE REGULATOR OPTIONS”

I have done a search for such a document, without success.
Does anyone have it to hand?

Thanks.

Actually the VR3 connections diagrams don't show the interface to an SCP 250, it was in an EDS sheet (from the CAT Technical Manuals).

It can usually be removed with no problem, only thing to be careful of is make sure the CT connection on the SCP250 gets shorted, some installers used the droop CT, others used the B phase metering CT, either would work. Just make sure you take care of it. Same with the voltage sensing leads.

Some installations of the Power factor controller bias output had it in series with the MOP's potentiometer, if that's the case, make sure the MOP has the right value pot for the VR3's remote voltage adjust, some installers did some funny things in the past, this one got me once.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys, all good advice.
The guys have already removed the Basler unit and taken care of the volts and CT connections, I will sort it out at commissioning (hopefully).
