Hi,

I am having a very hard time with a Disel Cat generator set.The engine is a C-18 one and the generator is a 700 type. The set was operating well before we shutdown the set for about three weeks. The set was left idle and when we power up the machine, the following fault is displayed on the EMCP panel EMCP 3.1-Engine speed sensor, Open 1/13, Present OCC 54.It is not possible to clear the fault. I have also noted that the display panel is showing a current reading, 376 Amps.
I would really appreciate some help as there is no manual and no backup where I am and the Cat Rep will only be on site in two weeks time.
Thanks.

Did you remove battery power to the controls during the idle period?

Some older firmware EMCP3's had to remove battery power to clear a major fault, you can try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, then see if you can reset. Also make sure the speed sensor connection is ok. Some sets used a Duetsch connector with little problems, other sets used a "sure seal" type and they had issues.

Display of a current reading could indicate the panel "locked up" again indicates you may have an older firmware. Make sure when the CAT tech gets on site he updates the firmware to latest revision.

Remove battery power for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect and try again.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Catseveng for your kind reply. Yes, the set was left without battery power for the duration of the shutdown.Removong battery power did not solve the problem. The resistance measured across the terminal of the speed sensor is 146 ohms.
Thanks again for your help;
