Hi,
I have friend who recently graduated with a BS in Telecom Engr. He is having a difficult time finding a job. I was wondering are there any specific certifications that can be obtained that may be beneficial in helping him start a career. Looking for certs that can be obtained while studing at home rather than going back to school. Any insite is appreciated.

Thanks

Tell your friend, nowadays that degree has very less demand. Many telecom companies have closed down or trimmed their technical staff. With the merging of computers and communications, any telecom networks now are being handled by non-engineers. In other words, the future for your friend's degree is BLEAK.

The best is for him to go back to school and study something related to medical field. Say, nurse, med tech, etc.

I am a telecom engineer myself and I am working in IT. The prospect in engineering, more so in telecom is not good.

Good luck to your friend.

i have a differnet opinion - the first job is always difficult (catch22 , you need experience to get a job, you need a job to gain experience)

the traditional telecom (TDM) is changing ...rapidly too
with the merging of computers and communications the job pool size is increased, you can get into either if one is willing to learn

The degree as such is a tool - the skills are more important. is your friend good at wireless networks in the school library - thats a telecom skill, which could potentially land a job
