Hi.

I'm hoping to get some constructive input. I'm a degreed ME engineer with 4 years experience in power plant piping, specifically B31.1 and ASME Class 2 piping.

I worked in nuclear power in the 80's before the industry went bust and threw thousands of us to the street. I went into sales and did well.

But ... I always wanted to get my PE and would like to get back into Engineering. I'm 55. Is this even possible? Would anyone even consider me?

My wife thinks I lost my mind. But I preferred engineering to sales, and want to get myPE as a bucket list item. I'd like to work ten more years.

Any thoughts?

You don't need the PE to get back into engineering. Working in the industrial realm usually does not require a PE. You are a bit short on applicable experience to consider more than just above an entry level engineering position, however. Who knows, you may work 20 more years.

Getting your PE will require a fair bit of study in order to get back what you learned and did not use in the intervening 30+/- years. Unless you have kept up while in sales.

Good luck, however you decide.

Ted
