Hi all,
I am new to this forum. I was hoping to get some advice as to which direction I should take in my career.
I am 37 yrs old and graduated when I was 30. I worked for a mining consulting EPCM company for a year and was laid off because of the recession. Since then I have been working as a mechanical designer(AutoCAD only) for various companies. I feel if my career is at a stand still.
I want to go back to school to either study HVAC or move to Calgary and take the process piping program ($15,000)at SAIT. I love doing piping so I don't mine becoming a piping designer, but I wonder if it is worth it. I very much want to work in the oil and gas industry at any capacity, but I don't know if my experience can cut it. I read that it is oil and gas industry is very competitive. But there seem to be quiet a few jobs in HVAC.
So I was wonder if with my experience (one year mining consulting EPCM and 5 years mechanical design), would I have any chance to find a job in an engineering firm related to the oil and gas industry in Alberta.
