Hi,

I'm a relatively new engineer working in Canada. I have ~5 years experience in the mining industry (mining engineer) and am looking to change career directions. I want to move into civil engineering (municipal engineering, geotechnical or environmental). I took quite a few common courses with civil engineers in school and have a solid understanding of earth sciences and heavy construction.

I have tried applying to some positions but have had no luck. I am considering going back to school however I am unsure if I should get a masters in civil
engineering or return and complete the required courses to have a civil undergrad.

Also, I am not totally convinced I need to return to school but am willing to if it will help me move my career in the right direction.

I am wondering if anyone can offer advice on what path to take?

Thanks in advance.

A masters degree is usually sufficient to make a person employable.

The only real difference between a Mining and Civil undergrad degree is the upper level courses. These are the same courses that you would take as part of your Master's degree. If you want the Civil degree, go for the Master's and forget getting a Civil bachelors.
