Does anyone have info on carbon fiber used as an implant? Carbon fiber has such high structural properties in flexion; but biocompatibility has had mixed results, with sensitivity to the size of wear particles.

I think they usually use carbon-fiber reinforced PEEK (a plastic) for implants, at least in orthopedics. The wear debris and the failure modes are of high concern though, so I think most companies are moving away from carbon fiber.

carbon reinforced peek may be a good solution. it has a good modulus of elasticity like bone structure. but I dont know about its wear properties. I would appreciate if anyone can give information about wear behoviour of peek.
