Carbon deposits on burners

Does anybody know why kerosene fed vaporising burners choke with carbon deposits? Is the existence of heavy hydrocarbons within the fuel to blame? Is the fuel being exposed to high temperatures which induce carboning before it has time to reach the burner to evaporate? Any views are greatly appreciated!
