Carbide Tipped saws vs HSS?

Ive heard that carbide tipped saws have made some progress when it comes to cutting S/S, compared to HSS. Has anyone heard similar?. It seems in the past, carbide has had problems with high nickel and duplex grades. ("gumming up").
