For those of you experiencing the CAPS lock to show lower case and flip when you select the CAPS lock button. SW has found this issue and has issued an SPR# on it. Please contact your VAR and turn request to be added to 498258.

I have seen many people discussing this problem on the web. I think it is important for those users to be aware SW has finally been able to reproduce and found a workaround. The workaround is to turn off autotrace.

You could easily spin this as a new feature:

"How many times have you been in the middle of creating/modifying text on a drawing and had to stop to respond to an urgent e-mail? In the past, you had to take the time to make sure that your response didn't "SHOUT" at the recipient(s)! Now, with Solidworks 2009, we've removed that annoyance - the CAPS lock function on your keyboard has been totally reconfigured to save you the embarrassment of "Keyboard-induced Tourette's"...

Must be the marketing group hasn't gotten their teeth into this one yet.

I still wish that there was a system option in SW that you could dictate that no lower case letters be used. Just give us the option to force everything into caps.

It doesn't force typing in all caps, but a coworker is developing a program at my request that will set Caps Lock/Num Lock on or off to the user's predefined preference when an app gets the focus from Windows. So, set SWX caps on, Word, email etc. off, etc. When you tab between apps, the locks should switch. I haven't seen anything yet, but he says it isn't a difficult task. He's using the project to learn new skills, like making it run in the system tray.

Wow, gwubs! That's just what I wanted. I never saw that when I was Googling. My guy says he has his version mostly working, so I won't take the wind out of his sails.

FirstCap looks good too, and free is best. Unfortunately it says it doesn't work with Vista, so it's out for me at lease. I'll have to shoot the developer a query about that.

Since you guys Hijacked my thread, I will still update you on the time it is to be fixed.

Fixed in 2009 SP5 and 2010 Beta.
