Capacitive Prox Switch Question

If a capacitive prox switch, being used to detect liquid level, becomes submerged by the liquid is would you still expect it to signal the PLC that it detects the liquid? One would think so, I'm just wondering if this might produce erratic results.

The assumption is of course that the cable/electronics of the switch are themselves not submerged and protected from being shorted out.

I do know if their is moisture on the sensor head it would still detect the presense of liquid. Giving you the false reading. Just run a test have the sensor hooked to your plc and submerge the head in liquid and then pull it out and see how long it indicates no liquid.
