Hi
Has someone used the sick LMS111 to measure flow of coal or bagasse on a conveyor belt? Does the sensor work well? Can we input the speed of the belt to the LMS111?
We have purchased and installed a Sick LMS511 to measure flow. Up to now it is working satisfactorily. But the price is very high 14550 euro. We are looking for a sensor of another make using the same technology but less expensive? Any suggestion? Thanks

Check around on the web - LMS111 units are available over a wide price range ($US 5500-12000 = $EU 5025-10920).

Since it hasn't got a way to measure volume I would think it would not be suitable.

Download the manual from
If you build your own software that creates the section area from the scans and runs on your own computer that also takes in the speed of the conveyor and interpolates correctly, then you can build your own version of the Sick LMS511

Have you considered a radiation detector?
They typically measure mass accurately and correlate that with conveyor speed to give a mass flow output.
The last radiation meter that I saw was measuring potash flow on a conveyor at a potash mine.

Hi
Suppliers of radiation detectors said they will not work on bagasse as the latter is not dense enough.

Thank you for the information.
I learned something new today.
