Can someone explain "Auto Solve Mode" and how to toggle it?

I've got a pretty detailed profile in an AutoCAD drawing that I want to use as a base sketch for a part. When I import the .dwg (block) unto a plane and try to edit the sketch, all I can do is delete entities. If I try to drag/move a point, I get the message,

The sketch cannot be dragged because Auto Solve Mode is off.
To drag the sketch, please turn Auto Solve Mode on.

Searching SolidWorks help, the knowledge base, and this forum, turns up nothing.

What is Auto Solve Mode? How do I turn it on?

When your in a sketch of a part go to tools\Sketch Settings\Automatic Solve

I found the answer - it's under "Automatic Solve".

However, I'd still like to know why if it's toggled off I can't change any entities to "For construction". And I'm still not able to move the whole sketch even though no relations are "holding" it anywhere. I'd like to move it to a particular position relative to the origin.

Tools\Sketch Tools\Modify that will allow you to move an entire sketch as long there are no relations holding it down.

When Autosolve is off I can cahnge me sketch lines to Construction without a problem. I cannot move them when it is off and that's the way it works. The best way I can describe autosolve (Also my understanding) is that when you move a sketch SW has to compute that entity around the origin and with it turned off SW doesn't not compute that information. That's why you need it on when you move a sketch.
