Hi everyone,

I am the engineer in the company located at US. We mainly do some finite element analysis related to contact problem with stem and block, applied thermal and mechanical loading, linear material property, static and dynamic analysis. Now, we are using another finite element package, pro/mechanica but we are quite interested in cheaper finite element package with similar function. I have used ansys and abaqus only before. I think ANSYS / mechanical module is enough for simple analysis. Can someone know any suitable finite element for me? I think ansys or abaqus is expensive than the pro/mechanica. Thank you for your information.

Best Regards,
Sam Lee

If you are looking for a cheap finite element package ALGOR might be the way to go.

Sam,

See thread727-120567. There are lots of options and lots of opinions.

Thanks jcfolry and feadude...

Pro/mechanica costs me about 10K + maintainese fee about 1K per year. I don't think ansys/mechanical or abaqus will be cheaper than that. Am I right? I found the old post, the algor costs about 7K. Is that right? But, do someone knows, can I import different parts into assembly of algor, we use pro/e as cad. Thanks.

Yes, you can import different parts of an assembly into Algor and it comes in as different parts. There is also an INCAD package should you choose to run Algor within the CAD interface (personally, I'm not a fan of running a CAD package and FEA package at the same time...a lot of overhead).
