I am trying to import a 3D drawing from AutoCAD 2007 in SolidWorks but it imports it as a 2D drawing and not a 3D that i can edit or extrude any parts of it.

Can I also import a normal 2D drawing and extrude parts of it as if it was drawn in SolidWorks ?
When i import or open a DWG file or dxf it opens it outside the sheet, Am i doing something wrong ? someone told me to export the drawing from AutoCAD as .SAT but i couldn't do that.

Thank you
Philippe

It may not come across cleanly.
Within SolidWorks try:
1. File/Open, search for .dwg
2. Select Import to a new part
3. Select "next", then "next" again.
4. Select box "as 3D curves/model.

Depending on level of detail, it may take time to generate model.

I used to translate my MDT5/ACAD2000i files into SW as editable 3D files but to do so both applications needed to be installed on the same PC and open at the same time. The process is in the Help under Import/Export.

My info is rather dated (2000i vs 2007) but I thought if it might help....

Hello macduff,

I tried but everytime i click on ACisout after i select the drawing, it does nothing, it's not asking to save it as to give it a name.

I tried to go to ACisout first and then select the entity but same thing happens, as if i am selecting nothing

regards
Philippe
