Hi,

I have downloaded some component part models and assemblies as IGES files that now exist in my SolidWorks assembly as skin only i.e. when I section my assembly the imported parts are hollow and unclear.

Is there an easy way of filling them in to make them solid?

Yes, knit the surfaces together and select 'attempt to form solid'.
Granted, it may not be as easy as that. You may have to do some trimming of surfaces to be able to get them to knit together. I'd suggest taking a look at the surfacing tutorials in SolidWorks.
